When we first had a boat in the marina everyone paid a fixed charge (for electricity). This did not work out so the berthholders proposed that we be charged by meter reading. All the berthholders bought and paid for a meter – a one off charge – so further charges would be for the electricity used only.
We now pay for a meter hire and electricity used. As we already pay for our berth, we should only pay for electricity used (as is normal in most marinas) without the meter hire charge. These are my thoughts. Geoff Castles

Our Treasurer, Ken Atkinson, has decided to sell Dagmara and, as a result, is no longer a berth holder. Regrettably, therefore, he has resigned from the CMBHA Committee. I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say how sorry we are that he is leaving CMBHA and how much we appreciate all his diligent hard work on behalf of the Association over a number of stints on the Committee.

I am delighted to be able to announce that Gary McMurry has agreed to take over the Treasurer’s role.

Dear CMBHA Member,

Marina Management has requested that all berth holders note that the pumping of bilges/sea toilets directly into the Marina Basin is illegal and must cease immediately.

They also want you to know that:-

1. Carrickfergus Borough Council has a legal responsibility to produce a Port Waste Management Plan for submission to the MCA for approval

2. Carrickfergus Borough Council also has a legal responsibility to comply with ‘Marpol’ Regulations

3. Under ‘Marpol’ regulations it is a criminal Offence to dispose of any waste products within a 3 mile radius of the coast with substances such as oil or fuel prohibited under any circumstances

4. Pumping bilges/sea toilets directly into the Marina Basin has serious Health & Safety implications

5. Carrickfergus Marina has a purpose built Pump-Out Facility within the Marina Basin……..

6. Carrick Marine Projects have a waste oil and fuel disposal facility …….

The RYA and BMF, representing recreational boat users and the leisure boating industries, want to see the marine environment protected for the enjoyment of all. We support these port waste management regulations, whose aim is to make sure there can never be any justification for dumping boat waste overboard……..

Marina Staff are more than happy to assist both Berth Holders and Visitors with the use of the pump out facility, but it is imperitive that this illegal practice ceases forthwith. Operational staff will be monitoring the situation closely and will be vigilant in trying to identify any offending boat owners.

Regards

Ken Baird

CMBHA Chair

Soon it will be the season when more Berth Holders will be arriving in the Marina. On good weekends we struggle to find a space in the Marina West car park amongst all the Mc Donalds carry out club members or patrons of the Windrose. Many of the spaces behind the Marina Office (signed berth holders only) are permanently occupied. Are these live- aboard berth holders?
It would be helpful to know what parking benefits are available exclusively for berth holders!
