What are we looking for?
We are looking for digital photographs which encapsulate the universal draw of the sea and the marine landscape as evoked by the famous Masefield poem Sea Fever (reproduced here for those who didn’t learn it at school!). The compelling appeal of all things Maritime is still evident today in the popularity of the recreational, leisure and sporting opportunities that the marine environment has to offer and the Association seeks to promote as one of its objects. For this competition the image must have an identifiable connection to Carrickfergus Marina and Harbour although we would consider that a Carrick boat with a backdrop of Sydney Harbour bridge would fit the bill so this rule should not be considered too limiting!
Prizes
Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places and entries which are commended by the judges will be displayed on the website at the discretion of the committee.

Sea-Fever
I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheels kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea’s face, and a grey dawn breaking.
I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
I must down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over.
By John Masefield (1878-1967).
(English Poet Laureate, 1930-1967.)
